Missing Prerequisites / Admission with Conditions
A student who is otherwise qualified for the MA in Dance but who has not completed all program prerequisites may be admitted with conditions, provided deficiencies do not exceed 12 credits. Work to remove conditions must begin in the first semester and be completed in no more than three consecutive semesters. Any course taken to satisfy a deficiency will not be credited towards the Master's Degree in Dance.
Dance Credits
If you are lacking dance credits and are interested in taking Hunter College undergraduate dance courses, please click here to find out how to apply as a non-matriculated student. Alternatively, the Dance Education Laboratory at the 92nd Street Y offers affordable dance classes that can be taken for undergraduate credit through a partnership with Empire State College.
The CLEP Exam
If you are lacking liberal arts and sciences credits, you can satisfy requirements by taking a College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam in the subject in which you are conditioned and passing with a score of 50 or higher. There are CLEP tests in algebra, calculus, biology, chemistry, natural sciences, American History, American Literature, French, German, and Spanish.
Science Credits
You can satisfy a science requirement by taking an on-line course developed by the Museum of Natural History. Recommended courses include “The Diversity of Fishes” and “In the Field with Spiders.” For more information, go to the AMNH Seminars on Science page.
