Independent Study

If you have taken ASIAN 210 (Asians in the U.S.) and are interested in working on a self-directed independent study project, please contact the Director of the AASP. Typically, independent study projects are open to students with Junior or Senior standing who are prepared to engage in an individually tailored research/creative/community-based project that is of relevance to their major or minor fields of study.

Students should have a full-time faculty member in mind for the supervision of their project, and should have approached this faculty member to discuss her/his independent study topic. With the faculty member's consent, the student can make an appointment to meet with the Director of the AASP in order to complete the necessary paperwork to register for an independent study.

Please note that independent study projects should not be considered as substitution for existing AASP courses: independent study opportunities are for proactive students who are unable to find courses that suit their specific research interests.

After completing the Independent Study form, please submit the original - with all necessary signatures - to A. Calderon, (Hunter West 1338) or ac15130@hunter.cuny.edu. As with all Hunter documents, we suggest that you make a copy for yourself, as well.

The Asian American Studies Program does not grant overtallies into any of its courses. Please do not contact individual faculty members requesting overtallies. Any concerns with this policy can be discussed with the Program Director.
