Courses

Anthropology courses span the world, and offer opportunities to analyze cultures, critically assess patterns of power and inequality, understand primate evolution, interpret social interactions, and examine the long history of human-environment interactions, from before the birth of agriculture to contemporary climate change.

While our course offerings vary from semester to semester, we always offer a wide range of courses in each of our four fields. Many of our core and elective classes also fulfill CUNY Pathways and the Hunter General Education Pluralism and Diversity requirements.

The Hunter MA consists of 30 credits of coursework, including training in theoretical foundations and research methods, and culminates in a thesis or comprehensive exam. Independent research and a thesis seminar are both integrated into the coursework requirement. In addition, all MA students are required to fulfill a foreign language requirement or complete a class in analytic and quantitative methods relevant to their research.
