Arabic Major

Hunter students can Major in Arabic Language and Culture. The Major consists of 27-33 credits, depending on whether you are a heritage or non-heritage learner and on how many Arabic classes you place out of.

For the typical heritage learner, the major is 30 credits and consists of the following classes:

Please note that the following classes must be taken in sequence:  ARB 10100, 10200, 20100, 20200 (ARB 14800 and 24800 for heritage learners), 30100, 30200, 40100, and 49000.

Arabic Minor

There are two different 12-credit Arabic minors at Hunter:
Arabic and Arabic Studies.

Arabic Minor

12 credits

The Arabic Minor requires the successful completion of 4 Arabic language courses above the 102 or 148 level as determined by the Arabic Program Head. ARB 149 can be taken in lieu of ARB 302.

Prerequisites for the minor: ARB 101-102, 148, or equivalent (6 credits, part of FL requirement)

Arabic Studies Minor

12 credits

The Arabic Studies minor requires the successful completion of 4 ARB courses on cultural or literary topics taught in English or in Arabic. Up to two Arabic language courses may be used to fulfill the minor requirements in lieu of two culture or literature courses.
