In Loving Memory of Dr. William Sakas

A Message From the Department

William Sakas, chair of Hunter College’s Computer Science Department, passed away on March 21, 2024, at 63. Renowned for his research on computational models of language acquisition, he was a dedicated professor and mentor. He developed key courses and championed accessibility in education.

Academics

Our curriculum focuses on hands-on programming skills as well as the theoretical foundations that support current technology and will guide its future development. Students are trained to construct creative solutions to challenging problems in a variety of contexts.
