Internships & Opportunities

CS Students

Many Hunter students gain real-world experience through computer science internships & employment opportunities arranged by department faculty or CUNY staff with important members of the public and private sectors. We encourage our students to take advantage of the opportunities & resources listed.

About Internships

The CSCI department offers internship credit for students who are working in an unpaid internship. To receive internship credit, you must be working in a technical role related to computer science and have successfully completed CSCI 23500.

Note: These credits count only as general Hunter credits and do not apply toward the CSCI major.

In order to apply for internship credit, please fill out the Fall 2025 Internship Request Form.

Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)

Open to qualifying CS students of all ethnic backgrounds, HACU has announced a program of paid internships, scholarships and opportunities for study abroad for the current academic year.

Internships may be with a US Federal agency or private corporation (earning trainees a salary of $450-$500 weekly during the duration of the internship; HACU pays any travel costs and offers assistance in securing lodging during the internship). Scholarships range from $1,000-$2,800 per academic year, and study abroad possibilities exist in conjunction with Richmond, the American International University in London. More information regarding the various ACU programs can be found at www.hacu.net.

The Computer Science Department offers academic course credit for "outside internships" in practical aspects of computing, e.g., systems programming, biomedical computing, computer-aided instruction. Students wishing to register for an internship (listed as CSCI 181; CSCI 182 and CSCI 183, and varying in credits from one to three) MUST BE declared computer science majors with at least 18 credits completed in the department. Credits can be used toward Hunter General Elective requirements, but cannot be used toward the computer science major.

Hunter College's Office of Financial Aid offers essential information on financial aid awards, scholarships, and fellowships, and provides links to applications and information about deadlines.
