Profile

Dr. Partha Deb is a professor and the chair of the Department of Economics at Hunter College. He teaches Introductory Economics and graduate-level classes in Econometrics. Dr. Deb also supervises research of undergraduate, master's and PhD students.

Outside of Hunter College, Dr. Deb serves as a senior advisor at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). CMMI was formed within a federal government agency as proscribed by the Affordable Care Act and charged with leading change in the health care delivery system. His research primarily centers on health economics and applied econometrics, addressing the effects of economic incentives and government policy on population health, welfare and health care utilization. A complementary component of Dr. Deb's research addresses issues of statistical methodological in studies of health and health care. His work has been featured in publications such as the Journal of Health Economics, Annual Review of Public Health as well as many others.

After receiving his BS in economics from Calcutta University, Dr. Deb later went on to earn his MA and PhD in economics from Rutgers University.

Some of Dr. Deb's proudest accomplishments as an educator and researcher include assisting his students in obtaining distinguished careers, lending his research to further advancement in pure academic and policy spaces and having a substantive impact on a part of health care policy in the U.S. following the Affordable Care Act.
