Educational Background

  • PhD, Harvard University
  • MPH, Columbia University

Research Interests

My laboratory focuses on gender and sexuality, and includes research on feminist identity, transgender health, and the impact of sexual behavior and expression on physical, mental, emotional, and relational health. I direct the Hunter Alliance for Research & Translation (HART), whose mission is to translate research findings into practical implications for service and advocacy organizations, accelerating the pace of equitable, just, empirically-based practice.

Our research investigates meaning and mechanisms—examining both underlying psychological constructs and their real-world applications. Our NIH-funded implementation science research focuses primarily on HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and investigates HIV as a case study for larger psychological concepts such as stigma and stereotypes, interpersonal and intergroup processes, identity development, and judgment and decision-making. Please visit our website at www.cunyhart.org to learn more!

Student Opportunities

Undergraduate and master's students interested in gaining research experience and/or developing a topic for a thesis should visit HART's internship page for more information. Those interested in pursuing a PhD in Psychology at The CUNY Graduate Center should visit the individual program websites for Basic and Applied Social Psychology or Health Psychology and Clinical Science.
