Belfer Research Building
The new Belfer Research Building extends Hunter's and Weill Cornell's fruitful history of public-private partnership and their collaboration on cutting-edge research and training. Hunter's faculty, conference and laboratory research spaces on the 4th floor of the new Belfer Research Building, will be fitted out in the coming months and open in January 2015.
The Belfer Research Building Overview
- 480,000-square-foot space for research, animal facilities, and conference meetings
- 21,000 square feet for the Hunter research space on our floor
- Neighboring buildings include: Rockefeller University, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute, and a broad range of research hospitals
- 16-story building will be devoted to translational bench-to-bedside research
- Focal health challenges for research include cancer, cardiovascular disease, children's health, neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, and global health and infectious diseases
- 12 Hunter faculty to move into Hunter's 4th floor in January 2015
- Hunter College departments represented include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Medical Laboratory Sciences
- Hunter research themes include: cancer biology, bioinformatics and computational genomics, bioimaging and nanotechnology, and infectious diseases
