Chinese Flagship Overseas Capstone Program in Taiwan believes that a change of location can change perspective, and change your life. The Taiwan Capstone Year provides immersive training in Chinese language and culture.

As a part of this program, students will attend classes alongside Taiwanese peers at National Chengchi University, and develop professional expertise in their field of study. This opportunity provides a chance to make lasting friendships and gain the skills necessary to become a global professional!

Ranked Best Country for Expats

In 2021, the online InterNations Expat Insider survey ranked Taiwan 1st as the best designation for expats for the third year in a row, where not a single expat felt personally unsafe. An overwhelming rating of 96 percent of expats expressed that the Taiwanese people were friendly towards foreign residents.

A Leader in World Happiness in Asia

In the 2022 UN-initiated World Happiness Report, Taiwan ranked first in East Asia and Southeast Asia in happiness, ahead of Singapore (27), Japan (54), South Korea (59), China (72), and Hong Kong (81), and ranked 26th in the world overall among 146 countries and territories.

Global Competitiveness

Taiwan was ranked 7th among 63 economies in the 2022 IMD World Competitiveness Report. Taiwan was also placed in the top 4 for innovation capability–scoring higher than 137 economies–in the World Economic Forum’s 2019 report.

A Vibrant Democracy

Taiwan is also a vibrant democracy, where freedom, rule of law, and human rights are all fostered and protected. In Freedom House’s 2023 Survey of Global Freedom, Taiwan received a high score of 94 out of 100 for freedom, making it tied for 7th place out of 210 countries in the world.

Who’s eligible to apply?

Students attending the Capstone Year must be enrolled in one of the U.S. Chinese Flagship Programs. Other qualification criteria include: academic performance, linguistic skills, course requirements, as well as a personal statement that includes a study plan for the Capstone year. Please consult the Chinese Flagship program at your home institution for details.
