Bluhm Scholars
The Solomon Bluhm Scholars Program
The Solomon Bluhm Scholars Program at Hunter College is designed for high-achieving students who are majoring in Greek, Latin, Greek and Latin, Classical Archaeology, or Classical Studies, and who will have at least 60 credits and a 3.5 GPA or above by the fall semester when they enter the Program. Bluhm Scholars will receive financial support that covers the difference between tuition and the financial aid that a student receives from state, federal, or Hunter TAP, up to the amount of in-state tuition. Students will receive the support for four semesters, or until they have earned 120 credits. Bluhm Scholars must be enrolled full-time in each semester during which they hold the scholarship.
Solomon Bluhm Scholars will also have opportunities for research and conference participation and attendance at local cultural and scholarly events/activities relating to Classics.
To apply, please submit the following three documents by April 15:
- A cover letter expressing your interest in the program and stating your declared Classics major. It should also contain a list, by semester, of the courses you’ve taken in that major; your year in college (e.g., upper sophomore, lower junior); and your contact information.
- A 500-word statement of intent that addresses the questions: Why are you applying for the Bluhm Scholarship? Why have you chosen to major in Classics? And what do you hope to achieve through the Bluhm Scholarship?
- A copy of your transcript.
Applicants will be notified of the decision before the end of the spring semester. Any inquiries are to be directed--and all materials are to be sent-- to Bluhm Scholarship Program: Brian S. Kunkel (bkunkel@hunter.cuny.edu).
