Get Help from Our Office

The Office of Diversity and Compliance responds to complaints of or concerns about prohibited conduct, including harassment and discrimination on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, genetic predisposition or carrier status, alienage, citizenship, military or veteran status, or status as victim of domestic violence.

If you are a Hunter College student, faculty, staff or applicant for employment and you believe you have been discriminated against or have observed discrimination or harassment, you may contact the Office of Diversity and Compliance for a confidential consultation or to:

  • Engage in informal discussion for resolution,
  • Explore options,
  • Seek assistance in negotiation/mediation,
  • File an internal complaint.
  • All Inquiries Are Confidential

Student Complaints Against Faculty

If you are a student and would like to file a complaint against a faculty member due to incompetent or inefficient teaching, neglect of duty, physical or mental incapacity and conduct unbecoming. You can find information on this type of complaint and process on the page linked below.

How To Report Sexual Misconduct

  • On every CUNY Campus there is a designated Title IX Coordinator who is trained in investigating any complaints involving sexual misconduct. At Hunter College the Title IX Coordinator is John Rose (john.rose@hunter.cuny.edu) and he has designated other staff to make up the Title IX Team. The Title IX Team are the individuals on campus that investigate any reports of sexual misconduct including sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, sexual assault, stalking, voyeurism, domestic violence and intimate partner violence.

How to Report Discrimination

  • If you would like to file a complaint against another member of the Hunter campus community due to discrimination based on race, color, creed, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, age, sex(including pregnancy, childbirth and related conditions), sexual orientation, gender, gender identity,marital status, partnership status, disability, genetic information, alienage, citizenship, military or veteran status, status as a victim of domestic violence/stalking/sex offenses, unemployment status, or any other legally prohibited basis in accordance with federal, state and city laws, you can do so with Public Safety, or contact John T.Rose.
  • Individuals who believe they have been harassed or discriminated against often find it useful to participate in counseling. Students who wish to receive such counseling services should contact Hunter College's Office of Counseling and Wellness Services at 212-772-4918. Faculty and staff who wish to receive such counseling services should contact Corporate Counseling Associates at 800-833-8707.
  • In certain cases, students who believe they are victims of harassment or discrimination may also find it useful to participate in academic services, such as tutoring programs on campus. Where appropriate, Hunter College will provide these services. Students who wish to inquire about the availability of academic services should contact Hunter College's Division of Student Services at 212-772-4882.
  • Where appropriate, Hunter College may also provide or recommend counseling to individuals who are found to have engaged in harassment or discrimination.
  • Hunter College seeks to address all instances of harassment or discrimination as promptly as possible. Therefore, in addition to the requirements set forth in CUNY's Policies and Procedures on Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct, all staff who observe incidents they believe constitute harassment are encouraged to report the incident to their immediate supervisors. If appropriate, supervisory staff and faculty members are also encouraged to intervene to address the harassment. In all cases, supervisory staff and faculty members will report the incident to the appropriate authority

How to Report Workplace Violence

  • The City University of New York and Hunter College are committed to promoting a safe and secure environment for all campus community members. All members of the community are expected to maintain a working and learning environment free from violence, threats of harassment, violence, and intimidation. In addition, while using Hunter facilities all individuals must follow the Henderson Rules. Hunter does not tolerate actions or threat of action, that put our campus community members at risk.
  • To file a complaint or ask a question you may email the Workplace Violence Prevention Committee at HCWPVC@Hunter.cuny.edu
