The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF)

The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) at Hunter College is an environmental grant that empowers students to be environmental leaders on campus and beyond. TGIF solicits undergraduate student proposals for innovative projects that reduce Hunter College's environmental impact, create environmental education opportunities and empower students to implement solutions to environmental problems.

Past Projects

These research and campus sustainability projects were completed by students:

  • Biodegradable cafeteria cutlery - Students worked to implement biodegradable utensils in the Hunter cafeteria.
  • Automatic hand dryers - This project resulted in the installation of energy-efficient hand dryers in select campus bathrooms.
  • Bundled recycling collection bins - Students worked to place recycling bins at campus sky bridges and select floors.
  • Eco Fashion Expo - In this 12-hour creative make-a-thon event, students of all creative skill levels (both experienced and inexperienced) came together to solve environmental problems by creating new outfits out of upcycled textiles.
