The Rita and Burton Goldberg Hunter MFA Playwrights Festival features virtual readings of new full-length works by Hunter’s 2021 graduating class: Liz Appel, Ella Boureau, Ryan Drake, Chris Harder, and Susan Xu.

Directed by Dominique Rider
CLAMS CLAMS CLAMS CLAMS CLAMS CLAMS CLAMS CLAMS CLAMS is a multilingual retrofuturist couscous western starring two eco-militant sisters living on a polluted Mediterranean beach.
Ella Boureau is an American lesbian with roots in France and Algeria. She writes plays about mediterranean myths, sex and female dirtbaggery.

HOMESICK, OR SACRED HETEROSEXUAL SPACES by Ryan Drake
Directed by Aneesha Kudtarkar
Come Downstairs! That show about the gays is on and Todd is home! We can't WAIT to change him--I mean replace him--I mean love him--I mean murder him.
Ryan Drake writes frenzied, campy, buoyant, and menacing plays about queer intimacy, identity and pop culture.

Jo's fiancée is dead. Or is she? Time is splitting open, nobody knows what's real, and truth can only be found in the language of stars.
Liz Appel is an expat Canadian who writes about danger, ghosts, and humans on the brink.

MY AJAX by Chris Harder
Directed by Jackson Gay
Jacob wants to write a new beginning, but first he has to face the end of Jax Steel plus battle with a chorus of cut throat sheep in this Greek adaptation meets gay porn fever dream.
Chris Harder is a playwright and burlesque performer who's North Dakota roots and glittery-gritty escapades influence much of his writing--and his wardrobe.

Friday, May 7 - 4PM
YELLOW DREAM$ by Susan Xu, Music by John Carroll
Directed by Eric Ting
YELLOW DREAM$ is a dark comedy with music that follows Kathy, an aspiring Asian-American producer on her quest to diversify the white imagination of Hollywood.
Susan Xu is a queer Chinese-American cat lady who is passionate about deconstructing the intersection of race and capitalism.
