An Evening of Arts and Activism to End Child Sex Trafficking

The Eva Kastan Grove Fellowship Program at Hunter College presents a panel discussion, a performance, and a short film screening. The evening will feature a panel discussion moderated by New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, with confirmed participants Rev. Que English, Founder and CEO, Not On My Watch; Rachel Lloyd, Founder and President, Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS); Darci Siegel, Youth Campaign Coordinator, Sanctuary For Families; and Assemblywoman Latrice Walker, New York State Assembly District 55.

The evening starts with a performance by The Arts Effect, an all-girl theater company, of two monologues from A Day in the Life, a one-act play about the impact of sex trafficking on girls. The performance will be followed by a screening of I Am Little Red, a 10-minute animated short aimed at children most at-risk for sex trafficking (e.g. foster-care, runaway, LBGTQ, and homeless children), with the goal of prevention and awareness. I Am Little Red is narrated by Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain.

Also on display: the work of Freedom Ladder, a nonprofit organization that has developed Abolitionista!, a manga comic book with narratives and artwork to educate children about the dangers of child sex trafficking and empower them to protect themselves and their peers.
