We know the process to legally change your name can be daunting, overwhelming, and perhaps even confusing. That is why the Sorensen Center for International Peace and Justice's Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) Rights Project will host its first Guided Pro Se Name Change Clinic on Monday, April 29, 2024.
This Clinic will provide an opportunity for TGNC members of the CUNY community to receive assistance with completing pro se applications for a legal change of name. Trained law student volunteers will provide guidance on how to complete the pro se name change form, ensure you have the appropriate documentation required for filing, and explain what to expect at the courthouse and during the ID change process.
This in-person gathering will also include opportunities to learn about your rights as a TGNC person, eat good good, and connect with other TGNC folks from across CUNY. The Clinic will be hosted at CUNY School of Law (2 Court Square West, Long Island City, New York 11101).
We look forward to meeting you and working with you to begin the legal name change process! If you have any questions, please reach out to sorensencenter@law.cuny.edu.
The deadline to register for this Clinic is Wednesday, April 10 at 5pm.
The TGNC Rights Project is made possible thanks to funding from the New York City Council through a partnership between the Sorensen Center/CUNY Law and the CUNY LGTBQIA+ Consortium.
