Know Your Rights: Gender Identity and Expression Discrimination Protections in New York City
Join the LGBTQ Policy Center and the Sorensen Center at CUNY Law for a “Know Your Rights” training session on gender identity/expression discrimination protections and self-guided Name Change trainings. This training will provide a holistic and approachable way to navigate the legal system.
This “Know Your Rights” workshop was created as part of the TGNC Rights Incubation Project at the Sorensen Center for International Peace and Justice at CUNY Law. Through collaboration with campus representatives, the Project aims to create access to legal information and support for TGNC and LGBTQIA+ students across CUNY.
The workshop provides information about legal protections for gender identity and expression-based discrimination in NYC specific to TGNC people. We aim to break down barriers through a student-led approach to this information, including practical information about how to navigate the legal system in NYC, with a realistic understanding of the utility and limits of these systems. The goal is for participants to gain a better understanding of existing protections in employment and public accommodations in order to strengthen their own, and wider community, advocacy efforts.
