Talk: Foreign Experiences and Writing
This talk will focus on understanding how foreign experiences shape our knowledge of the world, intensifying foreign language practice through story-telling skills, and the experience of becoming a creative writer in different parts of the world.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Ssu-Fang Jessie (劉思坊) is an award-winning writer in Taiwan, and currently lives in New York City. She is the author of Poor Little Things (a short story collection), and Hide and Seek ( a collection of essays). Her latest novel, Stranger Things in Taipei, will be published in spring, 2025.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, she obtained her PhD in East Asian Language and Literature at the University of California, Irvine. She has taught Chinese language, literature, and culture at Pomona College (CA) and Georgetown University (DC). She is currently teaching at Hunter College.
