Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab invites you to attend a special film screening and discussion on the youth activism born of the 2018 Parkland school shooting featuring the award-winning documentary US KIDS and introducing the filmmakers and Samantha Fuentes Parkland survivor, activist, artist and Hunter College student.

SCREENING STARTS promptly at 5pm
Followed at 6:45pm by a discussion with Samantha Fuentes and filmmakers Kim Snyder, Maria Cuomo Cole and Lori Cheatle

Roosevelt House is proud to present Us Kids, a documentary chronicling a national youth movement born from the tragic 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The screening will be followed by a discussion featuring director and producers Kim A. Snyder, Maria Cuomo Cole, Lori Cheatle, and Parkland shooting survivor and Hunter College sophomore Samantha Fuentes.

“A galvanizing reminder that change is only possible if we believe in it.” —IndieWire

Insightful and inspiring, Us Kids tells the rousing coming-of-age story of a generation of youth leaders who set out across the country, and the globe, to build an inclusive and unprecedented movement to address gun violence. Sparked by the plague of gun violence ravaging schools, Us Kids follows the “March For Our Lives” movement over the course of several years, as its co-founders, survivors, and a group of teenage activists organize the largest youth protest in American history.

Told through a deeply personal lens, Us Kids allows viewers to see this group of driven, resilient, empathetic individuals as they see one another—as “normal” kids—while they bravely navigate the personal consequences of their remarkable choice to dedicate their lives to honor the fallen and influence public opinion.

This event will be held in person at Roosevelt House and online via Zoom.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all who attend, and masks must be worn at all times in Roosevelt House.
