Steven L. Baumann is a professor of nursing at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY). In addition to having a BSN in nursing, MS in psychiatric nursing and in gerontological nurse practitioner, and a PhD in nursing, he is an ANCC-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner. He has been the global perspectives column editor for Nursing Science Quarterly since 2005. On the faculty of the School of Nursing since 1990 and the Graduate Center of CUNY since 2006, he is a NP in behavioral health at Sun River Health in the Bronx. He is married and the father of two daughters.

Steven L. Baumann is a professor at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing.

Dr. Baumann’s research interest at this time is on helping older adults with opioid use disorders stay safe and healthy, which includes telehealth and medication assisted treatment. Currently he is conducting a retrospective study with Dr. William Ellery Samuels and the research staff at Hudson River Healthcare, of persons age 55 and older with opioid use disorders and other chronic conditions, both medical and mental health. In his role as contributing editor for Nursing Science Quarterly, he does research and edits international papers on what affects nursing and health around the world. The most recent is a paper using grounded theory to study the experience of patients and their families and providers recovering from a Traumatic Brain Injury in Iran.
