How do I publish a page or content item?
Users with the Publish Content role can change the state of items to Publish Internally or Publish Externally.
Publish Internally: Content is visible to other users of the WebCMS, but not to the general public. (Users must log in to the administrative interface to view content.)
Publish Externally: Content is visible to other users of the WebCMS and on the public-facing website.
Important Notes:
- If you do not see "Publish Internally" or "Publish Externally" in the State drop-down menu, you may not have the necessary roles to publish content. Please contact your subsite's Staff Manager.
- If your website has not yet been officially launched, and is still in development, you may publish your content without it becoming available to the general public. Instead, it will become available at a temporary URL for your reference only.
- Once an item is published, is cannot be un-published; it can only be marked as old or deleted.
- In order for an item to be visible to the general public, all of its parent items must also be published. For example, in order for an image to be visible on a page, the page must be published, the image must be published, the Images folder must be published, and the Repository folder must be published.
- After you publish an item, you must use the check-out/check-in process to edit it. Click here to learn more.
