Message from the Dean

Khursheed Navder
PhD, RDN, FAND

Professor and Acting Dean, School of Health Professions

Greetings and welcome to the newly reconfigured School of Health Professions at Hunter College of the City University of New York. This dynamic school houses accredited programs for those interested in pursuing some of the most critically needed professions of our time:

  •       Nutrition and Public Health (undergraduate and graduate)
  •       Physical Therapy (graduate)
  •       Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (graduate)

Our school's focus is its strong clinical programs emphasizing prevention, wellness, and public health measures that contribute to a healthier society. Our interprofessional education prepares students to have a holistic approach, putting patients and their communities first. As a school, we also ensure that our principles of diversity and inclusivity are carried out through our teaching, research, and service, and align with our Hunter motto: Mihi cura futuri  —  “The care of the future is mine.”

Students enrolled in the numerous programs offered across the three distinct departments can depend on receiving a rigorous, high-quality education. Our diverse and experienced faculty provide an outstanding level of expertise and insight, our externships, rotations, and clinical placements are exceptional in providing hands-on experience and those students lucky enough to join each year follow in the footsteps of many successful and practicing alumni. It is truly an honor and a privilege to be leading a school filled with such mission-driven, evidence-based, and well-intentioned individuals.

I have been a part of the Hunter community for more than 35 years now and am still inspired daily by the brilliance of our students and faculty I meet each year. Being part of the healthcare professions means being dedicated to a field based on ever-evolving science. This means committing yourself to lifelong learning, and I am so glad to be a part of this first foundational step towards a profession which will undoubtedly instill a commitment to curiosity, compassion, cultural competence, evidence-based practice, and care, for the remainder of your career.

All my best,
Khursheed
