CONFLICT OF INTEREST
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) issued new regulations regarding Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) for research with Public Health Service (PHS) funds on August 25, 2011. The implementation date of these regulations goes into effect on August 24, 2012.
These regulations have new requirements and guidance on institutional policy, disclosure, oversight and reporting of Financial Conflict of Interest and training of personnel. For more information on the policy on Financial Conflict of Interest, please refer to NIH website at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/policy/coi/ for more details.
In CUNY’s endeavor to comply with one of these mandates, all Principal Investigators or Co-Principal Investigators named in a PHS grant proposal must complete the Conflict of Interest (COI) module of the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiatives (CITI) Training. Upon completion of the training, you will receive a certificate of completion. Please print a copy of the certificate and keep it in a safe place. Please also send a copy to the Office of Research Administration at Hunter.
The certificate is valid for four years. You must take the CITI refresher course prior to the expiration in order to maintain your COI training certification. A copy of the certificate is required for all proposals to PHS for individuals listed as Principal Investigators or Co-Principal Investigators. Please refer to our website at http://research.hunter.cuny.edu/research_compliance.htm for more details on how to complete this training.
Hunter College’s Interim Conflict of Interest Office is Dr. Susan Klitzman, Professor of Public Health and Acting Associate Dean of the CUNY School of Public Health. If you suspect that you may have a financial conflict of interest or need further guidance, please contact her. She can be reached via email at sklitzma@hunter.cuny.edu or 212-396-7727.
