State Senator Andrew Gounardes (D–Bay Ridge) has been named to the 2025 Hunter College Alumni Association Hall of Fame.
Gounardes, a Hunter 40-Under-40 honoree and a 2024 Eva Kastan Grove Fellowship Leader at Hunter’s Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute, will be awarded the honor during a ceremony at Hunter on March 28, at Alumni Weekend.
Grove Leaders are accomplished practitioners who spend a semester working with students on a project advancing public policy or human rights.
The Hall of Fame Committee of the Alumni Association of Hunter College inducts alumni for service to the college, outstanding service to the community, or both! Inductees are listed by year on plaques in the West Lobby at Hunter’s 68th Street campus. Five alumni are to be inducted in 2025.
“I’m incredibly proud to be a Hunter alum, and I’ve spent my years in office, fighting tirelessly to ensure CUNY students get the funding and support they deserve,” Gounardes said. “I’m thankful to the alumni association for this recognition. The brilliant students I’ve taught at Hunter represent the best of New York City. I’m excited to watch them thrive and eventually to work alongside them on behalf of our communities.”
Known as a sensible progressive among Albany legislators, Gounardes has distinguished himself by advocating for street safety, protections for immigrants, and tax credits for working families.
