She’s succeeded again!

A Hunter College Film & Media alum has won her third Emmy Award as a producer of the hit HBO series Succession.

Gabrielle Mahon ’98 received the award for an outstanding drama series at the 75th Emmy Awards January 15. The final season of the blowout series about ruthless, Scottish-born billionaire media mogul Logan Roy and his conniving children took four of the five nominations in the drama-series category.

Earlier, Mahon won several Golden Globe Awards and two previous Emmy awards for Best Television Series (Drama) for her work on Succession, which debuted in 2018. She was also honored with the Producers Guild of America Norman Felton Producer of the Year Award in Episodic Television (Drama) in 2020. The gracious producer hired several other Film & Media alumni to work with her on this and other projects.

Among Mahon’s many credits are the feature film Ben is Back (with Julia Roberts), Martin Scorsese’s HBO Series Vinyl, Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick, and interactive thriller Mosaic.

“Gabrielle is a fantastic talent with an incredible work ethic, and we in Film & Media knew she would go far,” said department Chair Kelly Anderson of the Irish-born Mahon. “She has also generously hired from among her fellow Hunter alumni, which is such a boon in an industry in which connections are paramount.”

With a world class faculty and up-to-date production facilities, Hunter’s Department of Film & Media Studies offers two undergraduate programs of study. One program leads toward a major in Film, combining film history and theory with film production. The other leads toward a major in Media Studies, combining critical media analysis with creative practice using a mix of contemporary media forms (video, print, digital graphics, and the Internet).
