Chancellor Matos Rodriguez and the CUNY Board of Trustees have announced the appointment of Dr. Nancy Cantor as Hunter College’s 14th President. Dr. Cantor, who is set to commence her tenure on August 12, 2024, brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to student success and social mobility.

A distinguished leader in higher education, Dr. Cantor boasts a career spanning over four decades, marked by notable achievements and a tireless dedication to advancing educational opportunities. Her appointment signifies a significant moment for Hunter College, as it prepares to welcome a leader deeply connected to its mission of access and excellence.

Born into a legacy of academic excellence, Dr. Cantor is the daughter of two proud CUNY alumni. Her mother, Marjorie, was a member of Hunter's Class of 1943, while her father, Aaron, graduated from City College. This familial connection imbues Dr. Cantor with a profound understanding of the values that define Hunter College.

Prior to her appointment at Hunter, Dr. Cantor served as chancellor of Rutgers University-Newark, where she distinguished herself as a champion of diversity and inclusion. Under her leadership, Rutgers fostered partnerships with local organizations and prioritized initiatives aimed at promoting social equity and accessibility in higher education.

President Ann Kirschner expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming collaboration with Dr. Cantor, emphasizing their shared commitment to advancing Hunter College's mission. Together, they plan to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, ensuring the institution remains at the forefront of educational excellence.
