Need more job skills?

HunterWorks!, our career-initiative, is offering students, faculty, and staff free, unlimited access to more than 22,000 courses on LinkedIn Learning for this academic year.

The “microlearning” courses teach topics, skills, and certifications across the academic and technical spectrum. Students may learn software programs such as Microsoft Excel and WordPress and technical subjects such as cybersecurity and network administration.  But they also may take micro courses in interpersonal relations, Sociology, Statistics, Economics, Graphic Arts ... the list goes on. Would-be participants may sign up for the courses through the new Hunter website.

“We are excited to offer Hunter students more pathways to learning what they want to learn -- whether those be career-related skills, academic topics outside of their major, or just exposure to topics they are curious about,” said Dean of Academic Innovation and Outcomes, Robert Domanski.

In a recent survey, most students said that they are interested in learning about certain topics but often can’t find such courses at Hunter. In the same survey, students indicated that what they would most like to see offered are courses in technical skills and professional skills that will help them land a job after graduation.

The microlearning courses will equip students with certificates and badges valued by employers, develop technical and professional skills, and provide new content for faculty who might want to embed additional material into their class instruction and pedagogy, according to Dean Domanski.

“Microlearning is a proven pedagogical strategy employing bite-sized units of information that learners can absorb at their convenience,” Dean Domanski said. “The short modules enable greater retention, engaging learners and motivating them to seek more information. Everyone wins.”
