On December 1, Giving Tuesday, 822 donors gave over $309,000 to Hunter College—making Hunter the #1 CUNY college in both dollars raised and the number of donors—for the 4th year in a row!
Thank you to all who made this year’s Giving Tuesday at Hunter a tremendous success! You, our loyal alumni, who give at all times of the year and make every day a “Giving Tuesday,” continue to inspire us. In 2020, the pandemic brought sharply increased costs and a strain in public funding, but you have been helping us bridge that funding gap all year long. In light of this, we will keep the Giving Tuesday website open. Visit the page to see if we can break 1,000 donors, and please participate if you can.

Join us in congratulating Malika Savell ’06, who was recently named Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer for North America by the Italian luxury fashion house Prada. Malika will be responsible for developing policies that ensure a diverse representation of cultures and perspectives across the company. We are so proud that her life and work reflect Hunter’s treasured motto, Mihi Cura Futuri, The Care of the Future Is Mine.
Archaeologist Alyssa Loorya '98, Co-Founder and President of Chrysalis Archaeology, spent a decade leading a team that excavated a 300-year-old farmhouse in Brooklyn. Earlier this year, New Yorker staff writer Vinson Cunningham ’14 wrote a reflective piece on New York City’s Prep for Prep educational program, which helps low-income students of color prepare for admission to selective private high schools. The article included a look back at his own positive experience in Prep for Prep, but pondered whether such programs obscure the educational system’s deeper inequalities. He also recounts, with much gratitude and fondness, his college days: “At Hunter, what I learned, I learned well.”
