Happy New Year

Happy New Year, Hunter College alumni! As we look back at 2020, Hunter's accomplishments throughout the turbulent year reflect the determination of our extraordinarily diverse student body, the dedication of our outstanding faculty and staff, and the generosity of loyal friends and alumni who stepped forward when help was needed most.

Amid the lockdown, U.S. News & World Report ranked Hunter 17th in the Regional Universities-North category—a one-year jump of six places! They also ranked Hunter #5 among public schools in the Northeast, and #3 in generating social mobility for its students—rankings echoed most recently by the annual CollegeNet Social Mobility Index, in which Hunter placed #9 in the entire nation.  Read the full press release.

Hunter students' commitment to their studies, as well as their communities, powerfully demonstrates that, even during a pandemic, the Hunter family continues to pursue the aspirations of our historic motto, Mihi Cura Futuri, “The Care of the Future is Mine”.

Support

With the ongoing financial crisis stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, student requests for tuition assistance, mental health counseling, and emergency grants for rent, food, and medical bills continue to grow. The demand for our food pantry packages remains high, as do our students' requests for books, equipment, supplies and technology for courses taught off campus.

To date, Hunter CARES (Coronavirus Assistance, Resources, and Education Support)—an emergency fund to provide grants for living expenses such as rent, utilities, and unexpected medical bills to students who lost their jobs, internships, and any means of supporting themselves—has given over $1 million dollars in grants, and the demand continues to be strong as New York City faces the second wave of COVID-19.

Now more than ever we are relying on private philanthropy to help support our operations, and our students. As you consider charitable giving, remember our Hunter motto, Mihi Cura Futuri, “The Care of the Future is Mine,” and please consider making a gift to Hunter College. Make a contribution to Hunter College today.
