“All students possess motivation, have goals, and are motivated for something. It’s our responsibility as parents and educators to try to direct and guide their motivational energy into actions that support learning, self-improvement, and success in our society.

We can do this by promoting their autonomy, believing in their own ability to succeed, helping them make connections to the ideas of school and to each other, and develop a sense of importance about the work we are asking them to do.”

- Michael Middleton, Dean of the School of Education at Hunter College, at Hunter@Home - Psychology of Motivation: Understanding and inspiring your child to Learn.
