A Hunter College adjunct lecturer was among three CUNY doctoral students to win an annual university award for outstanding teaching.
Coline Chevrin has taught Geography classes at Hunter's Geography and Environmental Sciences Department since 2019.
“Teaching at CUNY remains one of the aspects of my PhD I love the most,” Chevrin wrote in her teaching statement.
According to Hunter Geography and Environmental Sciences Professor Peter J. Marcotullio, who has observed Chevrin in class, Chevrin is a “very engaged” teacher and leads a “lively” and “excellent” discussion.
Chevrin said she favors student-centered and active pedagogy.
“I will keep working to provide students with the critical tools that will help them navigate their complex realities, firmly believing that some of the discussions we have in the classroom will be the roots of a better understanding of regional and global issues and might hopefully become the seed of new interests,” she wrote.
The department offers majors in Geography and Environmental Studies, a five-year combined BA/MA program in Environmental Studies and Adolescent Education-Earth Science, and minors in Geography, Environmental Studies and Geology. Its programs focus on urban and social geography; globalization and international development; earth systems, environmental science, and physical geography; geographic information science, remote sensing and digital mapping; environmental policy and sustainability; and social studies and environmental education.
