Hunter President Ann Kirschner led a campus tour for several legislators as the college played host to a New York State Assembly hearing on December 19.
Assembly members Rebecca Seawright, Patricia Fahy, and Joshua Jensen toured sites including the student union, science labs, and the west plaza.
“It was an honor to show them this historic campus and our diverse and talented students,” Kirschner said. “They came away with a greater appreciation of Hunter’s role as an engine of social mobility and economic empowerment.”
The legislators walked with several CUNY officials who were visiting Hunter for the occasion, including Vice Chancellor for Government Affairs Jeffrey Rodus, Board Vice Chairperson Sandra Wilkin, and Senior Vice Chancellor and Special Counsel Glenda Grace. They also spoke with Hunter Undergraduate Student Government President Bassrou “Bashir” Juwara and Cultural Affairs and Student Activities Commissioner Ariadna Pavlidis-Sanchez.
At the hearing, Assembly members from across New York State representing the Higher Education, Health, Mental Health, People with Disabilities, and Labor committees met to explore solutions to the Empire State’s healthcare-worker shortage. They heard from more than 20 witnesses on healthcare-worker attrition and vacancy rates, wellness, training, education, and workplace conditions.
