A Hunter College researcher was awarded $100,000 to pursue cures for a childhood bone cancer by MIB Agents, a leading pediatric osteosarcoma nonprofit ded.
Dr. Shahana Mahajan received the grant at MIB Agents’ FACTOR Conference in Cleveland, Oh., in June. The “OutSmarting Osteosarcoma” grants are supported by MIB Agents Family Funds, osteosarcoma patients and families who raise funds in honor of an “OsteoWarrior,” a patient battling osteosarcoma, or an “OsteoAngel,” a loved one who has died from the disease. Dr. Mahajan was among five scientists awarded the grants this year.
“I feel truly blessed to receive the award that allows us to continue our research to find better treatment options for kids with osteosarcoma,” Dr. Mahajan said.
The OutSmarting Osteosarcoma grant represents a partnership between the scientific and patient, with patients and their families funding much-needed research. Patients and caregivers participate in the MIB Agents robust scientific review process alongside scientists, clinicians, and researchers, offering a voice on how research will affect patient outcomes.
MIB Agents — dedicated to “making it better” for its community go patients — has awarded more than $1.9 million to scientists across the country since its inception in 2016.
