HunterWorks! Summit Brings Employer Partners to College

HunterWorks! Panel speakers

It’s about jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.

Recruitment professionals and industry leaders joined some 80 Hunter faculty and staff February 26 for a summit of HunterWorks!, the college’s flagship career-success initiative.

The hiring managers and recruiters gave advice on job trends, internships, and employment skills in a panel discussion facilitated by Hunter Director of Partnerships Travis Fox. Afterward, faculty members attended a workshop on integrating career-readiness into the curriculum, while staff and advisers attended one on student career coaching.

The summit exemplifies Hunter’s commitment to fulfilling its role as an anchor institution, by collaborating with industry experts to advance economic mobility and community building in New York City.

“This growing ‘little army’ of ours is making great strides to position more of our students for success in landing internship and employment opportunities that are aligned with their career interests,” said Dean of Academic Innovation and Outcomes Robert Domanski. “Our faculty and staff are on the frontlines, and their individual contributions are critical pieces of this comprehensive effort.”

The summit was only the latest initiative of HunterWorks!, which is led by Domanski.

In the fall, HunterWorks! began offering students, faculty, and staff free, unlimited access to more than 22,000 courses on LinkedIn Learning for the academic year. The “microlearning” courses teach topics, skills, and certifications across the academic and technical spectrum. Since the launch, 1,663 discrete users have completed a total of 370 courses and 14,115 videos. The most popular courses on LinkedIn Learning teach Excel, Photoshop, Python, and data analytics.

HunterWorks! also began offering students certificates from notable companies in various sought-after jobs skills, including ones in Career Essentials in Generative Artificial Intelligence from Microsoft and LinkedIn, a JavaScript Foundations Professional Certificate from Mozilla, and a GitHub Professional Certificate.

HunterWorks! aims to raise the number of academic departments employing internship coordinators, faculty career specialists, and practitioners in residence. Faculty members also may apply for curriculum innovation grants.

HunterWorks! is working toward a 40% internship rate for students and an 80% employment rate for graduates in a full-time job aligned with their career interests within 12 months of graduation, with equitable outcomes across student population groups.
