As a natural evolution of a robust undergraduate program in Chinese, Russian, and Spanish language studies,

“This program is tailored precisely to meet the growing demand for all manner of professionally trained linguists in the current world economy,” said Director Julie Tay (ATA/NYCT member and former director of the NYU master’s in translation). The Hunter MATI will provide students with a thorough grounding in today’s translatorial and editing processes for a wide range of texts and genres, from literary works and press releases, to research reports and legal and financial documents; in interpretation, students will learn sight translation, oral rendition in the consecutive and conference mode, and community interpreting in an array business and social service settings.

“I’m excited to see that we have an onsite program catering particularly to New York City and that includes foundational studies in machine translation technologies and localization,” said Jon Ritzdorf, translation technologist and ATA member, who will be teaching in the program. Also lined up to join the Hunter MATI faculty is Dr. Milena Savova (former chair of the NYU Department of Foreign Languages, Translation, & Interpreting) who will be teaching Translation Theory.

“This program is tailored precisely to meet the growing demand for all manner of professionally trained linguists in the current world economy.”

MATI Director, Julie Tay

Offered onsite (with online options) in New York City, the Hunter MATI is a 30-credit, two-year curriculum for full-time students that may be completed within five years on a part-time basis. As of the Fall semester, the Hunter MATI will enroll students in three language tracks – Chinese, Russian, and Spanish – paired with English.
