Office of Assessment September 2014 Newsletter

September 7, 2014
Share

Welcome to our inaugural newsletter!

With the new semester comes a new newsletter! The Office of Assessment News will keep you up-to-date on what's happening in assessment locally and in the field. We look to highlight the great work you are doing, offer tips and tricks, and let you know about upcoming events and the latest developments. Looking forward to being in touch!

Share your Story!
At Hunter, faculty and staff are doing great things when it comes to assessment. The only problem is, so few of us know about it! Tell us about your latest project so we can highlight it in this newsletter and on the website. And if you're interested in guest blogging about your assessment journey, let us know that, too!

Office News
Your new Director, Dr. Meredith Reitman, started in November of last year and has enjoyed meeting so many of you since then. On September 15th, she was joined by an excellent new College Assistant, Nikki Nagler, a graduate student in the School of Education. Visit us any time in the Hunter East building at the 68th Street campus.

Make sure to visit the Office's brand new website for tools, tutorials, and guidelines, including some great models from fellow members of the Hunter community.

Rattled by Rubrics?
Rubrics, unlike surveys and tests, are one of the few student learning assessment tools that don't automatically show up in other contexts like research and teaching. But they are often the most important tools we have in the box! But not to worry! The Office of Assessment has you covered. Visit the website to learn what they are all about or check out the rubric to browse through hundreds of thousands of examples.

Upcoming Events
Join us for our upcoming series of Assessment Breakfasts, co-sponsored with ACERT, over the coming semester on a variety of topics relevant to both faculty and staff. We also will be holding workshops jointly sponsored by the Office of Research Administration.

In the meantime, if there is an assessment topic you'd like to know more about, either through a workshop or website resources, please let us know in our quick survey.

The Office of Assessment works with faculty and staff across the College to help them explore student learning and success in their courses, departments, programs, and offices.

Visit us online, by phone, by email, or drop by Hunter College East Building, Room 1008.
