Profile

Dr. John Qiang Li is an associate professor of accounting in the Department of Economics at Hunter College. He teaches Accounting & Auditing Research, Advanced Accounting I and Advanced Accounting II to undergraduate students, though he has taught nearly every accounting course available at Hunter College since joining the faculty in 2008. Dr. Li currently serves on the Accounting Curriculum Committee and is an alternate member of the Hunter College Faculty Senate.

As an educator, Dr. Li finds equipping his students with the resources needed to tackle accounting issues in the real world especially rewarding, and he continuously finds purpose in bringing the relevance and usefulness of accounting knowledge into the classroom. His main areas of interest include financial reporting, voluntary disclosures and international accounting.

His research in capital marks and corporate disclosures has been published in numerous accounting journals such as the Financial Review, Review of Pacific Basin Financial Markets and Policies, Advances in Accounting and Journal of Accounting Research.

Prior to teaching at Hunter College, Dr. Li gained international experience working at the Fortune-500 firm Sinochem, which significantly broadened his view of the business world.

Dr. Li received an MA in economics from the University of International Business and Economics and earned his MS in business from Washington University where he also obtained a PhD in accounting.
