The mission of the Hunter College Department of Physical Therapy is to produce skilled Physical Therapists who uphold the core values of our profession and exemplify the highest standards of professionalism.
Clinical education is integral to the curriculum, providing students with hands-on experience crucial to their development as competent clinicians. Across four full-time clinical education experiences, totaling 34 weeks, students immerse themselves in clinical environments, applying their knowledge and skills directly to patient care.
Throughout the program, students participate in clinical experiences at four distinct clinical sites, offering exposure to various settings across the continuum of care. These encompass a wide range of clinical settings including, but not limited to: acute care hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private practices, school settings, home care, and specialty sites. In addition, students have the opportunity to select one clinical setting for their final placement, which may include revisiting a previous setting or exploring specialties like sports medicine, pediatrics, or pelvic floor rehabilitation.
At Hunter College, we maintain strong partnerships with premier medical systems and private practices regionally (NY, NJ, and CT) and nationally. Our clinical partners are renowned their commitment to excellence in patient care and providing exceptional educational opportunities.
Our clinical education team is dedicated to tailoring placements to each student’s needs and interests. They work closely with students to ensure that their clinical experiences not only fulfill academic requirements but also align with individual career aspirations. Students also have the option to collaborate with our team in identifying new clinical sites that resonate with their personal interests.
Join us at Hunter College, where our commitment to excellence in clinical education shapes the future leaders of physical therapy.
