Title: 2019-2020 Committee Letter Application Workshop
Description: The Committee Letter workshop organized by the Pre-Health Office to provide each undergraduate applicant or re-applicant with valuable information about preparing your Committee Letter Application and your medical, dental or veterinary school application. This includes guidelines for preparing Personal Statements and other parts of the application. These guidelines are presented to help applicants to craft their personal statements and other parts of their Committee Letter Application.
In order to submit a Committee Letter Application and receive either a committee letter or letter packet you must attend one of the workshops. This is MANDATORY for all first-time applicants as well as re-applicants who would like to have previously submitted Committee Letters updated.
Committee Letter Document Requirement
1. 8-10 course evaluations- You must have at least 3 course evaluations from science courses (one from Biology, one from Chemistry, and one from Physics preferred).
2. 6 letters of recommendation- You must have one letter from a Hunter science (biology, chemistry or physics) faculty member, one letter from a clinical supervisor/doctor and, one from a research supervisor.
3. The 8-10 course evaluations and 6 letters of recommendation must all be submitted by February 1st, 2019.
Title: How to Pursue Research Opportunities for Pre-Health Students
Description: Dr. Odaelys Walwyn and Jeanne Garbarino of The Rockefeller University will discuss the importance of research and how to find research opportunities.
"Research is highly valued at top-tier schools. Without a research background, some applicants will be screened out of interviews, even though they have good grades and a solid MCAT score. However, a student with a research background will likely be perceived by admissions committee members as inquisitive and willing to think creatively."
This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.
Title: How to Prepare and Apply to Physical Therapy DPT Programs
Description: This workshop will cover everything you need to know in order to be a strong applicant to DPT programs. The workshop will discuss all aspects of preparing for and applying to DPT programs including pre-requisite coursework in the physical and social sciences, the necessary types of clinical, volunteer service, and extracurricular experiences and hours, letters of recommendation, GPA, and Test Scores. The workshop will also provide an Application Timeline and review how to navigate the PTCAS application site.
This workshop is highly required for all Pre-Health students who are considering a professional career in physical therapy.
Title: The Right to Refuse Treatment
Description: Join the Society of Bioethics and Medicine for an engaging discussion about the moral principles and legal rights that revolve around a patient's difficult decision to refuse medical treatment. Food will be provided.
Title: How to Prepare and Apply to Dental School
Description: This workshop will offer a step-by-step detailed action plan for students to follow with the intention of providing the framework for a strong and comprehensive dental school application. The workshop will break down the students’ responsibilities as an applicant by year and consider strategies that will lead to a more competitive application. This is a required workshop for Pre-Dental students.
