Title: Clinical Volunteering 101 for Pre-Health Students
Description: Carley Howay, CARE Volunteer Coordinator at Mount Sinai Hospital will be conducting a workshop about clinical volunteering and will also recruit students to serve as volunteers in the Emergency Department. This is a highly sought after placement for anyone interested in pursuing an education and career in health. This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.
Title: Stop the Bleed training for Pre-Health Students
Description: The ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding in someone who is injured and effectively assist that person can save a life. A person can bleed to death in under five minutes, and it often takes longer than that for medical personnel to arrive. Members of the public can be the difference between life and death in a trauma situation if they know what to do. STOP THE BLEED is a program that teaches basic bleeding-control techniques including wound packing and tourniquet applications. This program is usually taught to medical students however we have the opportunity for Hunter College students to learn these techniques in classes taught by physicians from Weill Cornell Medicine. There is also the option to receive a certificate at the end of the training.
