Title: Doctor Speaker Series Panel Discussion with Dr. Nwachukwu & Dr. Anstey
Description: Join us for a panel discussion with Dr. Ben Nwachukwu and Dr. D. Edmund Anstey.
Dr. Ben Nwachukwu is a 4th year orthopaedic surgery resident at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Born in Nigeria, he attended Columbia University where he received a BA in Psychology and was a 4-year starter on the Men's Basketball team. He attended Harvard Medical School where he earned an MD Cum Laude and also earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has over 60 publications in print on orthopaedic health services research and is currently planning to pursue a sports medicine fellowship after his residency training.
Dr. D. Edmund Anstey is a Cardiology fellow at Columbia University Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital. He received his BA from Washington University in St. Louis where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biology and African & African-American Studies. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He went on to complete a residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Alongside his fellowship in cardiology he is actively involved in research and medical education. His research focuses on racial and gender disparities in care as well as hypertension among African Americans.

This includes guidelines for preparing Personal Statements and other parts of the application. These guidelines are presented to help applicants to craft their personal statements and other parts of their Committee Letter Application.
In order to submit a Committee Letter Application and receive either a committee letter or letter packet you must attend one of the workshops. This is MANDATORY for all first-time applicants as well as Re-Applicants who would like to have previously submitted Committee Letters updated.

We'll outline the details of the exam, registration, and scoring of the NEW MCAT and then open up the floor to our panel, which will feature students that have taken both the old and new versions.
These panelists have a wide variety of backgrounds and prepared for the MCAT in different ways. They'll discuss their approaches (study methods, prep courses, practice tests, etc.), best practices, and things they wish they had done differently. Also, food will be provided!

Title: MedPrep Summer Program at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Info Session
Description: Cindy Estevez, the program coordinator for the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Columbia University Medical Center will discuss the NERA MedPrep Program. MedPrep is a free, summer enrichment program targeting traditionally underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged New York City and New Jersey resident college freshmen and sophomores interested in attending medical school. MedPrep is a 3 year summer commitment designed to give students an opportunity to develop key skills and competencies important to success on the MCAT and in medical school.
Accepted New York resident students begin the MedPrep program at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.
The MedPrep Program is best suited for candidates without summer obligations as the program is full-time.
Accepted students receive stipend support.
There is no application fee.
