Attention will be given to strategies you can use to present yourself as the resilient, compassionate clinical scientist you strive to be.”

Title: SPURS-Columbia University Biomedical Summer Research Program
Description: The SPURS program provides intense research fellowship experiences on the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons campus to undergraduate students from Universities in the City of Greater New York. The experience is intended to (a) provide meaningful training in biomedical research, and (b) enhance the students’ ability to achieve a career in biomedical research and/or medicine by pursuing an advanced degree (either Ph.D., M.D./ Ph.D. or M.D.). In addition to specific training in the indicated research area, the students receive in-depth training in biomedical research methodology, including: (a) the design and analysis of experiments, (b) a critical reading of the scientific literature, through journal clubs, (c) the presentation of scientific results at laboratory meetings, (d) attendance at convened poster sessions, (e) the preparation of abstracts and manuscripts describing the results of experiments, and (f) career counseling and research ethics.
Title: American Red Cross at Hunter College Volunteer Orientation
Description: The American Red Cross at Hunter College will host an info-session for Pre-Health students. The event will provide information on opportunities for community outreach. You will receive Red Cross volunteer hours for attending this meeting, Information to register with us will be included below. It is recommended to complete registration as soon as possible to begin accumulating hours. The registration includes an online orientation where you will learn about the Red Cross mission and some information on some of volunteers opportunities. We will have plenty of these opportunities available for you to RSVP to for the weeks following the meeting. These opportunities include; Volunteer work in Disaster Services, Home Fire Preparedness training, Psychological First Aid, Soup Kitchens, Blood Drives, Mass Care and Sheltering. We will explain how each of these events helps in the betterment of those in our communities. We're looking forward to meeting you!
Title: Trauma Management and Point of Injury Care
Description: We will discuss the main causes of death in emergency care and learn how to manage the three preventable causes of death; which are hemorrhaging, airway compromise, and tension pneumothorax. In addition, we will go over the different phases of initial care from point of injury through medical evacuation. We have demonstrations of some medical equipment and hands on skills.
