MAPS-Minority Association of Pre-medical Students Open House
Join Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS) for its first official event of the semester. Learn about shadowing, mentoring, research, and academic opportunities that will benefit you greatly as pre-medical students.As the oldest and largest pre-medical club, our events will provide you the support you need to get through the four long years at Hunter, and attendance of our events will give you credit and hours that are required. We will be serving a continental breakfast.
Pre-Health Group Advising
Hunter Pre-Health advisers will hold a group advising sessions for students with pre-Health questions. This session will be held in a classroom setting and will allow students to collectively ask questions of the pre-health advising team and to learn from their pre-Health peers. All are welcome, especially first-year and transfer students!
Stress management for Pre-Health Students
As a premed student, stress is an unavoidable part of life. Academics, volunteer hours, extracurricular activities—it all adds up. Unfortunately, many students don’t manage stress well—and struggle as a result. While stress can’t be completely avoided, this workshop will teach you how to reduce stress and anxiety. This workshop is a required workshop for new Pre-Health students. This workshop is also strongly recommended for students who are struggling academically or who are current applicants to medical, dental and optometry school.

Hunter College Pre-Health Clubs and Organizations Fall 2017 Open House
Mix and mingle with all of the Pre-Health clubs and organizations. Learn how to get involved in the Hunter College Pre-Health Community. The New York Academy of Sciences Volunteering Opportunities Information Session
Alex Orak of the New York Academy of Sciences will recruit Hunter College students to volunteer. This is a great opportunity for pre-health students to give back to their communities by volunteering their time and giving back to NYC’s underserved communities in a meaningful manner. Additionally, this are opportunities for professional development, improvement of communication skills, and to expand networking capital. Tentative outline: - Introduction (about the Academy, mission/history/200th anniversary, importance of STEM) - AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate Position - AmeriCorps VISTA – 1 year full-term position - Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program Brief list of benefits: - AmeriCorps VISTA members will receive education award or an end of service cash stipend, orientation and training, living allowance, AmeriCorps Network participation - The Academy will additionally cover transportation expenses, phone service bill, all individuals who participate will receive The New York Academy of Sciences membership that will allow students to attend events and conferences
Interviewing 101 for Pre-Health Students: Applicant Interviews
This workshop will help you prepare for the admissions interview process for Dental, Medical, Optometry, Podiatry and Veterinary schools. The target audience for this workshop are students currently applying to medical, dental, veterinary and other graduate level health related programs. Topics will include: What Interviewers are looking for Attitude and Effort Body Language Research The Mock Interview Types of Interviews Thank You Notes We will address your concerns about the nature of med, dental, and vet school interviews. Included will be a review of common mistakes and tips on how best to prepare.
The National University of Natural Medicine Information Session
Amber Timm will discuss graduate programs at the National University of Natural Medicine. The university is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, and offers a number of graduate and professional programs focused in integrative medicine, including Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, Master of Science in Integrative Medicine Research, Master of Science in Integrative Mental Health, Master of Science in Sports Medicine, Master of Science in Global Health, and Master of Science in Nutrition.

Utica College Nursing Program Information Session
Utica College's major in nursing offers a very rigorous program of foundational study, practical training, and clinical experience in the discipline, complemented by comprehensive learning in the liberal arts. Nursing students have access to UC's state-of-the-art Albert and Gloria Shaheen Nursing Laboratory, which features a fully equipped hospital ward and advanced learning technologies. Students work closely with exceptionally accomplished faculty. 2017-2018 Committee Letter Application Workshop for Post Bacc Certificate Students
The Committee Letter workshop organized by the Pre-Health Post Bacc advisor to provide each applicant or reapplicant with valuable information about preparing your Committee Letter Application and your medical, dental or veterinary school application. This includes guidelines for preparing Personal Statements and other parts of the application. These guidelines are presented to help applicants to craft their personal statements and other parts of their Committee Letter Application. In order to submit a Committee Letter Application and receive a committee letter you must attend this workshop. This is MANDATORY Post Bacc certificate program students.
Doctor Speaker Series- Dr. Paul Martin
Join us for an engaging discussion with Dr. Paul Martin. He will talk about his specialty (Internal Medicine), and his role as a hospitalist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Martin received his medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine and his MPH from Harvard University.
