At the moment, we are especially interested in getting people onboard to collaboratively forecast the timing of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine development. To highlight and augment activity around this topic, we have recently introduced the Salk Tournament with the aim of generating accurate and reliable publicly available predictions on the research, development and distribution of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
This initiative will award $2000 in prizes to the top contributors. Thus far, we've had demonstrable successes in predicting complex pandemic-related topics such as case numbers and epidemic peaks, and through a partnership with University of Massachusetts Amherst our data is now being sent weekly to the CDC.
It is our hope that this tournament will provide accurate timelines of vaccine R&D to help inform decision-makers and the research community.
