How can CRISPR help us win the fight against COVID-19? Join our student-member led discussions to find out more about past pandemic influenzas and how they help us better understand the current virus. We’ll also be discussing why CRISPR is so essential in its advancements and how it plays a role in potential COVID-19 treatment options.

- Faria Haq is a rising junior, a biochemistry major, and a journal club member! She will present on: “Receptor usage and cell entry of bat coronavirus HKU4 and provide insight into bat-to-human transmission of MERS coronavirus.”
- A related discussion on understanding how past pandemic influenzas can guide us in mitigating the effects of the current pandemic and updates on COVID-19 vaccine research.
- Afsana Rahman is a rising sophomore, bioinformatics major and public policy minor. She is passionate about the intersection between human biology, computer science, and public health/policy. She will present on: “Correction of a pathogenic gene mutation in human embryos.”
- A related discussion on current usage of CRISPR gene editing to fight COVID-19.
