Last year, over 58,000 applicants applied to allied health doctoral programs, whether for medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary, physician assistant, or other career pathways. Of the over 40,000 applicants to MD programs, 46% of the applicants attended only 158 medical schools in the United States. Many of those accepted applicants are immigrants or children of immigrants.
How do we help our Hunter students compete with the daunting challenges of all that they need to complete to be a competitive applicant, including science classes, volunteering, community service, and research? Well, yes, we do have rigorous Pre-Health Program, but importantly we try to create a team for our students, and the most important part of that team has to be the applicants' family: parents or guardians. This is why we are so very excited that you have joined the Parents' Orientation. It shows that you are ready to continue to be a member of your student’s team, now including other Hunter students, their advisors, and a medical school representative.
We are so glad that you will come, and we look forward to meeting you and hearing your concerns and suggestions.
