Join us for an engaging discussion with MD candidate and Hunter College alum Besmira Alija.
Besmira Alija is a current third year medical student at Harvard. She was born in Albania and raised in New York City, where she completed her BA in Biological Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies at Hunter College. As an immigrant and first generation student, she developed a passion for teaching and mentorship.
As a result, she has volunteered for non-profit organizations such as Peer Health Exchange, Biobus, worked for the New York Department of Education, and co-founded a mentorship program at Hunter College. At Harvard, she served as the Director of Admissions and mentor for the HOPE Scholars program, and continues to mentor student both inside and outside of Harvard. She is passionate about working with underserved communities, which inspired her to complete her clerkship year at the Cambridge Health Alliance and conduct surgical outcomes research. Besmira plans to apply into general surgery, with a focus in surgical education and caring for communities in need.
