Why be a Public Service Scholar?
The Public Service Scholar Program is a one-year, 12-credit program open to all Hunter College juniors and seniors, regardless of academic major.
The program includes:
- A 20-hour per week placement in a public or non-profit agency or elected official's office for the full academic year;
- Two weekly seminars on public policy, advocacy and social and political matters relevant to New York City;
- 12 credits in Urban Studies toward an undergraduate degree; and
- A stipend.
PSSP provides an opportunity for in-depth, hands-on learning about how public policy is made and how services are delivered in New York City.
Scholars work on exciting and important projects at a variety of organizations. Whether you work on the arts in public schools, consumer advocacy, children or elderly issues, prisoner justice or wildlife management, one thing is certain--your year as a PSS will give you a new perspective on the city and your place in it.
