About
Hunter College takes graffiti and the defacing of property very seriously. Graffiti can come in many forms, and depending upon a number of factors, it may be assessed as a hate crime. It can also be offensive or disruptive to the instructional environment.
Please note that the Facilities staff, as well as Public Safety staff, routinely inspect the premises and check for any graffiti or stickers on Hunter College’s property. However, any campus community member should report to Public Safety graffiti tor stickers affixed to Campus property that they come across on campus property including the main campus, dormitories, Silberman School of Social Work or School of Nursing. Once Public Safety is informed there is an implemented procedure, including making an Incident Report, reviewing the location and graffiti, taking photos and notifying facilities to remove the graffiti as soon as possible. If the graffiti is possibly a hate crime because it uses racial slurs, derogatory remarks about an individual or group’s identity, or a hate symbol, that graffiti or sticker, is reported to NYPD in accordance with their procedures which includes having them come to campus and awaiting their direction.
