Bias Incident Log
New York State legislation S.2060-A/A.3694-A requires colleges and universities to report and post incidents of hate crime offenses that occur at or on the grounds of the institution. Reports of suspected hate crimes are required to be reported to NYPD who determines the final classification of the incident.
It is important to note that while all hate crimes are bias incidents, not all bias incidents are hate crimes. The legislation uses Penal Law section 485.05 for the definition of “hate crime.” For additional information on hate crimes and bias incidents, please see this infographic from the Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes.
This page will list bias incidents that have occurred at or on campus grounds and have been reported to Public Safety but: are under investigation by NYPD as to whether it is to be classified as a hate crime; have been determined by NYPD to not be a hate crime; and/or do not have an underlying crime.
